What's happening this week in the Kusini Collection:

The Sable family suite sits beneath the canopy of
a gorgeous camelthorn tree

Secluded Aguti has lots of hidden treasures and few
other tourists
Costa Rica Sun Tours: There's a new option for walking in Monteverde! The private cloudforest reserve of Aguti near Santa Elena has an excellent network of trails with great views of the Nicoya Gulf in the Pacific Ocean. Aguti is part of a greater conservation complex that includes the Monteverde Reserve, the Eternal Children Rainforest and the Arenal Volcano. The new reserve is committed to the study of local and migratory species of plants and animals. Costa Rica Sun Tours guides help visitors find a wide variety of wildlife from tree sloths, howler monkeys and porcupines, to beautiful birds like the yellow-throated toucan and the resplendent quetzal.

KQ is making East Africa easier
Albatros Travel: Nairobi has become the perfect hub for an East African safari. With new direct flights on Air Kenya from JFK starting in October and the Sheraton just a mile from the airport (with a free shuttle!), it's an easy choice. Flights arrive in the morning and depart late at night allowing for connections to be easily made, either within Kenya, or to (or from) points further afield, including Tanzania, The Manta Resort, Uganda and Rwanda. You could set up the ultimate East African safari with Albatros East Africa, Classic Africa Safaris and The Manta Resort! We're already dreaming up an itinerary...

The uber-talented Todos Santos Eco Adventures guiding team
Todos Santos Eco Adventures: The superlative guiding team at Todos Santos Eco Adventures account for fully 10% of those in Baja California Sur who have received accreditation in the 3-month training course for "specialized tourist guides with orientation towards nature" offered by a conglomeration of Mexican governmental organizations. All of TOSEA's guides are Wilderness First Aid certified and this accreditation just makes Baja's best guiding team even better! Congratulations to Mauricio Duran, Alan Montes de Oca, Hernando Torres Gonzalez, Sergio Mariscal, Diego Bautista, Bernardo Cruz, and Moises Torres - it's a terrific achievement!

Guayaquil's Hotel del Parque is set amidst beautiful
tropical gardens
Tropic Ecuador: Guayaquil was once considered a corporate travel center and mere stopping point for travelers en route to the Galapagos Islands. Now, Guayaquil has come into its own as an exciting and sophisticated destination - it is a city transformed. Tropic Ecuador is especially excited about the new Pacific Coast boutique accommodation and dining scene. From the lovingly restored Hotel del Parque, to the serene and intimate Hacienda la Danesa just 90 minutes from the city, to the gorgeous Las Tanusas beach retreat and spa, there is something for everyone. Contact Andrea to learn more about a visit to Ecuador's Pacific Coast.

A rendering of the Four Seasons waterside bungalows
coming soon
Maya Trails: Most travelers to Belize arrive via cruise ship and get the barest sample of what the country offers. We think that's a huge mistake. The good news is that Bloomberg reports that the profile of the typical traveler to Belize is starting to change - it's not just cruise stops and backpackers anymore. The word is out that the country has a string of luxury developments coming online (including a Four Seasons overwater bungalow development a-la-the-South-Pacific) and much to offer visitors. Maya Trails tells us that those who visit in 2018 will be ahead of the curve.

VIDEO: The most exciting book launch video of all time is
for Vanishing Kings
Ultimate Safaris: The Vanishing Kings films brought Namibia's desert-adapted lions into the conservation spotlight. Having reached millions of viewers, their story has increased tourism while also helping to raise awareness for the importance of the lions' conservation. Now there is a new book illustrating how these magnificent animals survive in one of the harshest environments on Earth while exploring ways for man and lion to coexist in Namibia's unique conservation areas. Ultimate Safaris is honored to support Dr Flip Stander and Desert Lion Conservation through their Conservation Travel Foundation.

South Africa has announced a 1% VAT increase effective
April 1st, 2018
New Frontiers: You've no doubt heard that the South African government announced a 1% VAT increase effective April 1st. As this is a mandatory government tax, New Frontiers is obliged to pass on the increase. On existing bookings, final invoices will reflect the VAT change but also take into account the varying approach of suppliers on applying the increase to confirmed bookings. Some suppliers will be increasing the VAT rate for services from April onward, some have chosen to honor existing bookings for a limited time, and some have opted to absorb the increase on existing bookings. Get the full scoop here.
