$30 entry visa for Rwanda reinstated

Unfortunately the NEW Rwandan visa requirement published 1st June 2015 have caused a lot of stress to us all due to the uncertainty and lack of clarity by Rwandan Immigration as to the new procedures and rates.

We shared what we've received from immigration. The information was not to us alone but all tour operators received the same information and was and is published on Rwanda’s official website.

After hundreds of complaints from all over the tourist industry the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration Rwanda has reversed the notice from the 1st June until further notice. The requested meeting with Rwandan Immigration by RTTA is yet to take place for further clarifications. Once the meeting takes place we will update you.

BUT IN THE MEANTIME EVERYTHING HAS REVERTED BACK TO THE SAME AS BEFORE 1st JUNE ANNOUNCEMENT......

Below is the latest update shared by Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration Rwanda to RTTA members sent late yesterday 11th June 2015  and effective immediately:

Entry visa - $30.00 – on arrival (no prior application required) for nationals of Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Rep of South Africa, Sweden, UK and USA.

Tourist visa (T1) – free – (no prior application required) for nationals of Singapore, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Philippines (https://www.migration.gov.rw/index.php?id=112)

Tourist visa (T2) - $50.00 – must apply At the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration or at Rwandan Embassy or Diplomatic Mission. (https://www.migration.gov.rw/index.php?id=115)

For more:
1.       Foreign Nationals wishing to obtain a Rwandan Entry Visa can request for a visa acceptance letter online (using the link: https://www.migration.gov.rw/index.php?id=28) which will be presented on arrival to obtain a visa upon payment of visa fee of $30. They can also submit their applications to Rwandan Diplomatic Missions of their Country of residence for processing. We request the host to send the invitation letter to delegates as they will be required to upload it in their online applications.

2.       In view of bilateral agreements, nationals of the following Countries may visit Rwanda without a visa for a period of up to 90 days: Hong Kong, Philippines, Mauritius, Singapore and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

3.       EAC Partner states citizens’ shall be issued with 6 months visitors pass (renewable) upon arrival with no fee. They include Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

4.       Nationals of Australia, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, Republic of South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, and United States of America will be issued with entry visa valid for a period up to 30 days after paying $30 upon arrival without prior application.

5.       Nationals of African countries not exempted from visa fee shall continue getting entry visa at Rwandan entry points (Kigali International Airport and all land borders).

6.       Foreigners with work/resident permits in Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya can travel within the 3 countries without paying visa fees. Eligible foreign residents are issued with interstate pass on exiting the host state & visitor’s pass endorsed in their passports on arrival. They are required to present valid (for at least 6 months) work/resident permits to get the interstate pass.

P.S.: Notice on Ebola; in order to strengthen preventive measures and protect residents and visitors of Rwanda against the outbreak of Ebola Virus; all passengers who had been in Guinea Conakry, and Sierra Leone for the last 22 days are strictly not allowed to enter Rwanda. An exception is only provided for passengers with special authorization signed by the Minister of Health of The Republic of Rwanda.
