Swakopmund Bike Tour

Namibia boasts a rich cultural diversity (at least 11 major ethnic groups, in a population of mere 2.2 million people) and therefore township tours provide guests an opportunity to meet Namibians in a genuine setting, and get a deeper appreciation of what makes this country so unique.

Most safaris in Namibia involve lengthy road trips and spending lots of time in vehicles (some journeys averaging 6 hours a day in a car), so getting out and cycling through Swakopmund’s Mondesa Township is a wonderful alternative to explore.  The ride is not strenuous and at a leisurely pace, with no mountains in Swakopmund to scale and a cool climate year round.

With the company of a local guide, you explore the streets of the Mondesa Township and meet local Owambo, Herero and Nama people.  By cycling in the community, you get to really know the people and why this township is so unique.  For those with daring taste buds, have a taste of local kapana (traditionally barbequed meat) at the open market; enjoy local music and beer at a shebeen and just enjoy meeting the various people and hear their stories; hopefully to leave with an enriched understanding of some Namibians and their traditions.

The tour includes bike rental, helmet, food tastings, drinks and services of the local guide. Ask your Ultimate Safaris consultant to book the Swakopmund Bike Tour as part of your clients' Namibia safari.
