Further details on Time + Tide's future luxury lodge in Madagascar

Nosy Ankao, Madagascar
Nosy Ankao – Madagascar, Indian Ocean

Nosy Ankao is the largest of five islands in an archipelago off the north eastern coast of Madagascar. Time + Tide are developing Nosy Ankao for ‘blue’ safaris with our signature focus on preserving the history of the area, best in class guiding, retaining an outstanding team and offering fabulous accommodation.

Plans have been drawn for the uber luxury lodge we are building on Nosy Ankao, in conjunction with award winning architects Sivio Rech and Lesley Carstens, the masterminds behind North Island, Seychelles and the award-winning Chinzombo, Zambia; which received numerous accolades including Best New Property in Africa in the 2014 Good Safari Guide Awards.

Our aim is to build a lodge which seamlessly fits the environment and offers guests the chance to create amazing memories in the heart of our Indian Ocean paradise. There will be 1,2 and 4 bedroomed villas strung out along the western side of the island, all with uninterrupted beach and ocean front views, such as this:

Some of the larger villas will be available for private ownership. We plan to open late 2016; keep watching for more details!

Madagascar is the fourth largest island in the world and approximately 90% of its extraordinary plant and wildlife are found nowhere else on earth; the foremost being the Lemur. Our piece of this heaven is the Nosy Ankao archipelago, found on the north eastern coast of Madagascar and accessed by a short helicopter ride from Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) which is the nearest airport, in an azure bay, high on the northern tip of Madagascar. The islands are generously served with the fresh and warm Indian Ocean currents and protected by the reefs which surround them. The largest of the four islands, Nosy Ankao, is 3.5kms from the mainland with gorgeous views of the ocean as well as the picturesque foothills and mountains of the north eastern Madagascan mainland.

Our journey to Nosy Ankao began with Jean Christophe Peyre who is an adventurer and has been an entrepreneur in Madagascar for more than 25 years. He has made the finest vanilla and essences for the perfume industry, searched for sunken treasures around Madagascar and started the algoculture farming business at Nosy Ankao which today provides employment to over 300 farmers and their families. Jean Christophe shares our passion for protecting special wild places and harmoniously developing ways for local communities to sustain themselves without overexploiting the area’s natural resources.
