Uganda Tourism Board statement regarding US State Department terror alerts

Classic Africa Safaris reports that while there was a terror alert for the Entebbe International Airport on July 4, 2014, no incidents have occurred in the time indicated on the alert. For further details please see the statement below. Uganda security and police forces are present and alert.

The following is a press release issued by the Uganda Tourism Board regarding US State Department terror alerts

July 4th, 2014

In light of the recent Terror Alerts in Uganda, UTB wishes to clarify as follows;

The US Embassy issued a statement warning of a looming attack on Uganda’s International Airport and other facilities such as hotels and other busy city areas.

There were however no such attacks anywhere in the country. The Uganda Police Force – Counter Terrorism Unit has since clarified that these warnings were in a way alarmist and uncalled for.

All security agencies are on high alert and will counter any planned such acts by any terrors groups on Ugandan citizens and visitors. As a country we pride in ensuring our visitors safety and Uganda is among the safest destinations for tourists and travelers in Africa. All our borders are fully pacified and secure.

We also wish to further clarify that Air Uganda is grounded on technical grounds and not because of any terror alerts.

UTB wishes to encourage all visitors who are within the borders of Uganda and those planning to travel to proceed with their plans as the security forces continue to do their part. We urge all our visitors to take extra precaution and to comply with security checks.
