The Latest from Livingstone and Victoria Falls: Upgrades and developments in preparation for UNWTO

New Frontiers Tours provided this recent update on the preparations for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly, which is being co-hosted by Livingstone and Victoria Falls at the end of August. There are all sorts of exciting infrastructure upgrades and developments taking place. The long term benefit to residents and visitors will be huge however in the short term there may be some disruption to daily life due to road works, building work and the power and communication network being upgraded.

Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls Airport is currently being modernised and extended. It was recently announced the new 4 km runway would be ready by April 2014 and the new International Terminal will be open by December 14. In the meantime the entrance to the current terminal building is being extended and is expected to be completed in time to welcome delegates attending the UNWTO General Assembly. Work has also started on turning the road from the airport to town into a dual carriageway. Most of the hotels have undergone or are currently undergoing refurbishment and refashioning.

We have been advised there are major roadworks taking place in and around Livingstone town. These are expected to last for the next couple of months and minor delays will be experienced on transfers between hotels, Livingstone airport and activities. Transfer times will be adjusted to allow for delays, however, it may be pertinent to advise your clients they may experience delays in their transfers over this period.
