Videos: Living Maya Experience and active adventures at The Lodge at Big Falls

Tad just returned from his first visit to The Lodge at Big Falls in the culturally fascinating Toledo District of southern Belize. He produced the two video below on The Living Maya Experience and adventure activities available at the Lodge.

I've made several trips to Belize but never ventured farther south than Placencia. And while the Cayo, the Mayan Mountains and the Belize barrier reef offer stunning vistas and many incredible adventures, the melting pot of culture in the off-the-beaten-path Toledo District is truly unique and a travel delight thanks to the rich and colorful traditions of the native Garifuna and Mayan people. The Lodge at Big Falls has long supported sustainable local tourism initiatives and now have introduced a new cultural program called the Living Maya Experience. Designed in partnership with two families of employees at the Lodge, visitors are able to experience how traditional Maya live today and what life was like 50 years ago before the modern world encroached.

But Toledo isn't without active adventure! With nearly a mile of riverfront, guests can embark on kayaking and tubing adventures right from the grounds of the Lodge. There are also a plethora of adventurous activities just minutes away including cave-swimming, zip-lining and hiking the lush lowland forests observing incredible flora and fauna while exploring ancient Mayan ruins.
