Kusini Collection Dream Trips: Uganda

Welcome to the Kusini Collection's new blog series on our dream trips in Africa! I thought this would be a fun way to share some of our favorite spots, hideaways and dream destinations! Classic Africa Safari's Phil Ward was just in Seattle visiting the Kusini Collection and our trade partners here in the Pacific Northwest area, so to keep with the Uganda theme of our week we'll start this series off with a few highlights from Uganda. As with any of these trips, please contact the Kusini Collection for more details.

In the far reaches of Uganda up North near the Sudan border lies Kidepo Valley National Park. Kidepo is Uganda's most remote park and is home to 475 bird species, over 80 species of
mammals and 28 alone that are found in no other Ugandan
national park. Bat-eared fox, caracal, cheetah and klipspringer are among them, as well as spotted hyena, impressive prides of lion, leopard and zebra. The park is thought to be home to some of the largest buffalo herds in Africa. The semi-arid landscape is skirted by mountains and filled with rich grasslands. Inside Kidepo, the stunning Apoka Lodge is on our list of dream trips. The 10 rooms are simply, but beautifully decorated with bathtubs overlooking the expansive landscape. A minimum of three nights exploring this remote park based at Apoka is a truly isolated and brilliant experience.

Our dream trip to Uganda:

Fly to Kidepo on a private charter (scheduled flights no longer run in Uganda), then from Kidepo, transfer by road through breathtaking bush and remote villages to Murchison Falls NP where Classic Africa Safaris' travelers enjoy private boat launches on the Nile and often spot herds of more than 100 elephant drinking on the banks. From Murchison Falls, we'd continue to Kibale for chimp trekking and a stay in the chalets at Kyaninga Lodge. From Kibale, continue to Gorilla Forest Camp for two nights and a day of gorilla trekking. From Buhoma, the vehicle continues on with the luggage to the opposite end of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, while travelers head out on foot for a forest walk to Clouds Mountain Lodge for two more nights and more amazing gorilla trekking. Return to Kampala/Entebbe via Lake Mburo and two nights at Mihingo Lodge for a horse back riding safari. Truly a dream trip to Uganda!
